Dubai Developer Unveils Plans for Luxurious Oceanfront Condos on Surfside Collapse Site

In a bold move, Dubai-based Damac Properties has announced its ambitious plans to construct a high-end luxury condominium building on the site of the tragic Surfside collapse in Miami. Led by renowned developer Hussain Sajwani, Damac aims to create a stunning 12-story boutique building with 57 exclusive units, designed by the esteemed Zaha Hadid Architects. This development not only signifies Damac’s foray into the South Florida real estate market but also promises to redefine luxury living in Surfside.

Damac’s proposed building design showcases two distinct variations, each reflecting different interpretations of the Surfside town code. Renderings depict a breathtaking stepped-back approach on the south side of the structure, resembling the elegant tiers of a wedding cake. The second design, without the stepped-back feature, showcases a seamless and contemporary aesthetic. In both iterations, the building appears as a pair of structures, cleverly separated in the middle to create a visually striking effect.

Luxurious Living at Its Finest

The forthcoming condos at 8777 Collins Avenue are set to offer an unparalleled living experience. Ranging from 4,000 to 15,000 square feet, these spacious units will exude opulence and grandeur. Residents can expect a host of lavish amenities, including a magnificent 100-foot-long rooftop pool that promises breathtaking views of the ocean and surrounding area. Previously planned as a Cavalli-branded building, Damac is now exploring the possibility of partnering with another prestigious luxury brand to elevate the project’s allure.

Sales and Marketing

While exact pricing details have not been disclosed, Damac anticipates launching sales either later this year or in 2024. The company is currently in talks with prominent brokerages to lead the sales and marketing efforts for these exclusive condominiums. Niall McLoughlin, Senior Vice President of Communications for Damac International, expressed the developer’s commitment to bringing “the most luxurious project ever to Surfside,” aiming to surpass the per-square-foot price record set by the nearby Four Seasons Residences at the Surf Club.

Continuing Hadid’s Legacy

This ambitious project marks the second major undertaking by Zaha Hadid Architects in South Florida, following the completion of One Thousand Museum, a magnificent luxury condominium tower in downtown Miami. Tragically, Hadid passed away in Miami Beach in 2016 while the building was still under construction. The collaboration between Damac and Hadid’s firm brings together the visions of two titans in the world of architecture and real estate, ensuring that the project will embody innovation, elegance, and timeless design.

Memorial Considerations

As Damac moves forward with its plans, family members of the victims of the Surfside collapse continue to advocate for a memorial to be built on the site itself rather than on adjacent property. While Surfside officials have designated a portion of 88th Street north of the former Champlain Towers South for a memorial, the discussion surrounding this topic remains ongoing. Damac’s development provides an opportunity for thoughtful consideration of the site’s history and the potential for remembrance.

Damac Properties‘ announcement to construct an oceanfront luxury condominium building on the Surfside collapse site introduces an exciting chapter in the real estate landscape of South Florida. With the vision of Zaha Hadid Architects and Damac’s commitment to unmatched luxury, this project promises to redefine opulent living in Surfside. As the development progresses, it will be intriguing to witness the harmonious fusion of architectural brilliance, breathtaking design, and the lasting legacy of the Surfside community.
